Odomase Pig Roast 3-23-2015

The Elders in the Odomase district invited us and the Kpong elders for a real Hawaiian Pig roast. They bought a pig, killed it and cooked it in the ground. One of the elders is from Samoa and he does this at home a lot. They provided the pig, I brought salad, drinks and dessert. The only problem is that several got sick after!!!

In Ghana, funerals are a very big deal. It may take months before the dead person is buried as the family prepares the big party. The coffin is also important as it shows the person's skill while alive. One coffin builder in Accra is Kane Kwei Carpentry. We visited his shop to see his work.

Bon Fire with Medina Zone 3-25-2015

The elders from the Medina Zone were getting together on a Sunday evening to have a bon fire. Why when it is 100 degrees out you could ever enjoy a fire, I will never know but?? They cooked pancakes smothered with chocolate, syrup, nuts, bananas and ice cream-they were amazing. Then we just sat around and visited and played "Mafia".

We traveled up to the Aburi area and went to the Botanical Gardens. It is an amazing garden with hundreds of trees and plants. We had a tour, then went to lunch at the Hillburi, and shopped at the wood carvers market. Elder Sanders is the crazy shopper in our relationship!!

NRP 3-26-2015

The Church sponsors groups to come to countries to help train them in Neonatal Resuscitation. Here is is just called Breathing for Babies because it is a very brief course on just how to keep them breathing-no meds intubation etc. They bring doctors in and teach them the course and how to teach it, then they had 80-100 nurses and midwives come learn. It was amazing. They had these kits that they let them take home to teach others that had a blow up "annie" that actually had expandable lungs and could feel a pulse. The church does some amazing things.

Independence Day 3-6-2015

The 58th Anniversary for Independence in Ghana. We attended the celebration at the large parade grounds. The stands were packed-we had a hard time finding sets. First they had a parade of all the military and other services like the police, fire etc. There were also many school children that marched in and stood at attention as the president came in. It was very hot and we watched several of the children pass out and have to be carried out on a stretcher. There was a fly by of a couple of jets. We left before the president gave his 2 hour speech.
