Hike to "Tall Mountain" with the Kpong District Youth 4-3-2015

The First district activity for the Kpong District. We helped get them organized to do activities more. We hiked this hill. There were about 10 youth. They fed us breakfast before going and then lunch after the hike. It was a great success.

The group that made it to the top-notice not many adults if any!!

Then we had a little accident on the way down. Jessica fell and broke her arm. We spent the rest of the afternoon in the hospital with her. It was the l facility around but it was very basic. Kind of scary.

Odomase Pig Roast 3-23-2015

The Elders in the Odomase district invited us and the Kpong elders for a real Hawaiian Pig roast. They bought a pig, killed it and cooked it in the ground. One of the elders is from Samoa and he does this at home a lot. They provided the pig, I brought salad, drinks and dessert. The only problem is that several got sick after!!!

In Ghana, funerals are a very big deal. It may take months before the dead person is buried as the family prepares the big party. The coffin is also important as it shows the person's skill while alive. One coffin builder in Accra is Kane Kwei Carpentry. We visited his shop to see his work.

Bon Fire with Medina Zone 3-25-2015

The elders from the Medina Zone were getting together on a Sunday evening to have a bon fire. Why when it is 100 degrees out you could ever enjoy a fire, I will never know but?? They cooked pancakes smothered with chocolate, syrup, nuts, bananas and ice cream-they were amazing. Then we just sat around and visited and played "Mafia".

We traveled up to the Aburi area and went to the Botanical Gardens. It is an amazing garden with hundreds of trees and plants. We had a tour, then went to lunch at the Hillburi, and shopped at the wood carvers market. Elder Sanders is the crazy shopper in our relationship!!
